In 2015, Toronto will be the proud Host City of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.
The 2015 Pan American Games, officially the XVII Pan American Games or the 17th Pan American Games, is a main international multi-sport event that is planned to be held from July 10–26, 2015, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with some events held in Golden Horseshoe communities such as Hamilton and Markham among others. Roughly 6,000 athletes from 41 nations are anticipated to contribute in 36 sports.
The Pan American Games are the world’s third major international multi-sport Games; they are only exceeded in size and scope by the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games.
The first Pan American Games took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951 and the opening Parapan American Games took place in Mexico City in 1999. Both the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games are held every four years for the athletes of the 41 PASO Member Nations, in the year preceding the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.
While the Pan Am Games have been held in a dozen countries all over the Americas, Canada has had the honour of hosting them two times; in 1967 and 1999 and both in Winnipeg, MB.
